I live near Penrith in NSW and have four children. We started home educating at the end of 2009 and employ an eclectic style of learning. We use a mix of natural learning and school at home. Self learning software makes up a large part of our home educating. If it works, we'll use it.
I joined the HEA in late 2009, became an ordinary committee member in March 2010 and took on the role of committee President in July 2010.

I live near Mildura in Victoria. My two daughters are now 8 and 10 years old and have never been in school full time. We do have a partial enrolment arrangement with the small local school. I have been a HEA member for some time, started going to HS camps in 2008 and became a volunteer for the 1300 line last year. We also use an eclectic approach with Natural Learning as the main ingredient. I am new on the committee as of 2010.

I have been the assistant treasurer for HEA since the end of 2009 and as of March 2011 have taken on the full job.
I homeschool my 3 children. We started homeschooling in August 2008 when we moved interstate to NSW. As the house we moved into was only for 6 months to get us relocated, I applied to homeschool my 2 oldest children for 6 months, withdrawing them from grades 6 and 3. The intention was that once settled in January the following year we would look at the local schools. We had discussed homeschooling our daughter who was due to start highschool, so had already done research. It was a nice "no pressure" trial for that last term of school.January came and no one wanted to go back into the school system so here we are today still at home.
My youngest has just been registered to start homeschooling this year in 2011. I have a structured curriculum for maths, but the rest is very open to what we feel like at the time. I am a huge fan of lapbooks and unit studies where we can cover more than 1 key learning area at once.

My wife and I live on the Central Coast of NSW and homeschool our 3 sons (aged 7, 5, 2). Our home ed experience so far has completely sold me on its value as a superior educational experience for my children and for the community.
My work background is in management in Adult & Community Education. I am currently completing a Graduate Diploma in Education, have a keen interest in governance and social enterprise within community-based organisations.
I see joining the committee of HEA as an opportunity for me to contribute to raising the public and governmental profile of an educational system that provides so much value; to the children, to the families that choose it, and to the communities that develop and grow as a result.
Kathy White
Kathy has been home educating since liberating her daughter (now 11) from Year 2 for a six-month break. That was over four years ago, and they haven't looked back. Her son tried school but quickly chose homeschooling. Kathy's family have evolved a flexible eclectic homeschooling style. Passionate about freedom in education and life-long learning, Kathy is currently studying Information Technology in education and finds current education theories support homeschooling practices and methods. She joined the HEA committee in 2010, appreciating the opportunity to promote homeschooling and assist homeschoolers.
Sharyn Grebert

I live in Sydney's southwest with my husband and three daughters. We have been homeschooling since December 2008 and are natural learners for the most part. I joined the HEA committee in 2010 and have been a member since 2005.
I live in Brisbane, Qld with my husband Troy and our two young daughters Romilly (5.5yrs) and Ximena (3.5yrs). We wanted to share the joy of learning, discovery, exploring and wonder with our daughters so home education seemed like a natural step for our family. We have been home educating our daughters for almost two years and in that time we have all learnt so much. Its been wonderful to connect with other families online and in real life through the vibrant homeschooling community, and this is where my interest in the HEA started. This is my second year as a member.
We use primarily a natural learning or unschooling approach although I would describe myself as more eclectic, as we use Montessori, Steiner/Waldorf and other resources in our learning. I've joined the HEA committee to learn more and to be able to contribute to the HEA community and share my joy and passion for home learning within our home education community and the wider Australian community.
Kathryn Heathcote

Originally from Leyland in Lancashire, England, I am a mother to three boys, 21, 18 and the youngest Harry 14 is home schooled with a curriculum based learning programme. We moved to Australia, Victoria over 4 years ago and became Australian Citizens this year (2011). We moved to Launceston, Tasmania in early 2010.
My career has been varied; I am a qualified florist of many years and have further qualifications in business administration and as a teachers aide. My career then took me to a government body in the UK, involving travelling and representing the public in government meetings. I have held positions on committees of school councils as well as being a clerk to a secondary school council.
