PLEASE WRITE LETTERS TO YOUR MP

Write to your MP explaining how you believe this pack will negatively affect your family. Use the above mentioned briefing document and the letter writing kit for inspiration. If you are concerned for your privacy, write a group letter or have others write on your behalf.   (*Please respect the research and authorship which went into this document and keep any details you use accurate.)

We have discovered most of these are passed to the minister who has been handing them to the OBoS to answer directly. So far the responses have been unsatisfactory. When OBoS respond immediately send another letter to your minister telling him/her why thr OBoS reply is unsatisfactory.

VISIT YOUR MP

Organise a delegation of people in your electorate to visit your MP. Go here to find your district and current MP http://www.streetlist.elections.nsw.gov.au/  If you would like to find  people in your electorate to work with, send us an email with your contact details and we will try to put you in touch with others who contact us.  Below there is a great deal of material to support your case.

Ben & Sharon Wu have written to their MP and (along with Sharyn Grebert) will be meeting  with  him this afternoon to raise issues of concern regarding the current registration requirements and its impact on homeschoolers. Their letter is available for download here. It is very well written and supported with evidence. It is a great letter to model your own letters on.

Sharyn Grebert is hoping to get a group of families together (husbands and children too) from the local community to do a follow up visit with the same MP. So if you live in area postcodes 2213, 2198, 2200, 2211, 2212 or 2214 and would like to join in to help your local Member for Parliament get to know the homeschoolers in his constituency and what is important to them, then please contact Sharyn on sharyn.paduch@gmail.com.

  • Govt. E-Brief on Home Schooling
  • Home Schooling Legislation
  • Hansard Documents : Disallowment of Home Education Amendment 1998
  • Rights of the Child :This right is upheld by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child which provides that, “Parents have the prior right to determine the form their children’s education…the State’s right to intervene in the education process is limited to ensuring that the children’s right to education is fulfilled.” (Article 26.3) This is reflected in the NSW Education Act 1990 which states, "the education of a child is primarily the responsibility of the child's parents".  The requirement for a home educator’s program to be based on the Board of Studies syllabuses contradicts this right and responsibility.
