HEN Home Education Network Victoria

H.E.N. (Home Education Network) is the largest, most vocal alternative education support group in Victoria. HEN began as AERG in 1980. It was formed by a small group of concerned parents wanting alternatives to mainstream education for their children. Home education and alternative schools were part of the group’s focus. Over time the focus shifted to home education and the group evolved into HEN. Most of our members today are actively home-educating their children. HEN promotes local groups of homeschoolers who organise group activities, camps and classes as well as providing support to members. We maintain a list of the groups and some details of their activities on our website. The majority of our members are based in Victoria but we welcome interstate members. 20% of our membership is outside Victoria – covering each state of Australia. Membership includes subscription to our quarterly magazine, Otherways. The revenue from memberships enables us to provide information and support for new home educators. We do this by distributing information sheets on the aspects of home education in Victoria, by operating a phone information line and via our website. Selected articles from Otherways are available on our website.
