Promoting home education & empowering home educators Australia wide.

HEA Membership includes access to insurance for individuals under three categories:
Organisers of a homeschool function
Volunteers of the HEA
Homeschooled Students undertaking Work Experience

New procedures and accepted activities to apply for activity/event insurance is now in place. Any new applications,
as of June 10th, 2025, will need to be submitted at least
3-4 weeks in advance and must be followed by a risk assessment form submission, before being considered for a Certificate of Currency approval. The risk assessment form can be found in the Insurance Kit, which is to be downloaded during the initial application submission.
Event Organiser's Insurance
Public Liability and Products Insurance cover to run your Homeschooling Activities

This insurance is designed to cover the volunteer parent/guardian who organises group events or functions for home educating families. Please read the amended list of covered activities and understand that a risk assessment is required to be submitted before your activity/event is considered for cover.
The organiser(s) must be a current HEA member, hold a current WWCC or WWVP and attend the event.
The organiser must hold a current WWCC for the state they reside in and upload the appropriate details to the insurance application form. You can find a table with the relevant state links to apply for your Working with Children Check or Vunerable People.
The organiser(s) must be acting in a volunteer capacity.
The HEA recommends you request access to this public liability insurance whenever you organise a group homeschooling event. Do this by registering your event with the link button below at least 3-4 weeks before your start date.
Responsibility to understand the cover and exclusions falls to the organiser of the event. Please read the "Types of Activities Covered" document. Also read the information in the Insurance Kit that you will have downloaded when applying. There are many documents explaining procedures and all relevant forms are contained therein.
There will need to be a WWCC holder for every 30 children or part thereof, attending an event and a risk assessment form is to be submitted before an event is considered for insurance.
Attendance records are compulsory to submit.
The cover is ideal when you are hiring a meeting space, as many venues require public liability insurance. It cannot be used to cover you at a private residence.
Camps or retreats are no longer covered.

Insurance Application Steps for Members
1. Submit an application 3-4 weeks before start date.
