Homeschooling in Australia is on the rise. The latest figures show an estimated 27,000 are homeschooled across the country – a more than 24% increase since the COVID-19 pandemic began. Essentially, homeschooling is parent or guardian-led learning from home that gives parents and teenagers the opportunity to undertake self-paced learning that would otherwise be done in school, usually across a variety of areas such as English, maths, sciences and more. It is recommended parents or guardians homeschooling teens be registered with a relevant state body.
WHY HOMESCHOOL?
There are many reasons why more and more parents and guardians are choosing homeschooling in Australia for their teens. Some of the reasons include:
More freedom and flexibility
Support learning difficulties
Religious reasons
Curriculum control
Geographical location
Preferring non-traditional school systems
